FILMS

In the process of exploring the German history of New York City, my wife, Mary-Lea Enderle, and I have created a couple of films on historical figures that captured our imagination. In addition, I was involved in a German TV show having to do with German history, which aired on German TV in September 2024.

TWO FILM PROJECTS

1) We created this short film on Pieter Claesen Wyckoff, one of the earliest settlers in Manhattan and long thought to be Dutch (in fact, he was from East Frisia), which was screened at the Ottendorfer Library in New York City and at the Tee Museum in Norden, Germany.

2) We are working on a feature-length film about Oswald Ottendorfer, who arrived in New York City after participating in the failed revolutions of 1848 in Europe and is the founder of New York's first public library, on 2nd Avenue, which is where I give my tours. We screened two segments of our Oswald Ottendorfer film on December 5, 2024, at the Ottendorfer Library (135 Second Avenue):

NOTE: We will screen the film in its entirety at the Ottendorfer Library on December 4, 2025

GERMAN TV

In September of 2024, I appeared in a German television show in a segment about John Jacob Astor, which can be watched here with English subtitles:
